US Survivor has filmed in the Mamanuca Islands of Fiji continuously since Season 33 began production in 2016. The first season was filmed on Pulau Tiga off Malaysian Borneo, while Season 14 used a different Fiji location on Vanua Levu. Jeff Probst says the current decision is logistical rather than simply aesthetic: infrastructure, political stability, weather, exchange rates and trusted government and landowner relationships make Fiji unusually workable.

Modern US Survivor is filmed in Fiji's Mamanuca Islands, a chain west of Viti Levu. The run began with Season 33, Millennials vs. Gen X, which filmed in 2016, and extends through the fiftieth season. That continuity is why a current episode can look geographically familiar even when art direction, tribe colors, challenge layouts and story themes change. Fiji is the production home, not the title of every season, and the country should not be confused with Survivor: Fiji, the separately located fourteenth season that aired in 2007.
A permanent base does not turn the program into a small shoot. CBS's behind-the-scenes visit before Season 48 showed a large operation rehearsing challenges and supporting the social experiment beyond the visible camps. Crews still have to move people safely by water, construct games, record synchronized sound and images in harsh conditions, run a medical operation and protect the outcome. What permanence changes is the amount of that system that must be rediscovered, imported, permitted and rebuilt in a different nation before each pair of seasons.

CBS's episode archive places the first season on Pulau Tiga in Malaysia. That fourteenth season matters because it was a distinct Fiji shoot, not the Mamanuca production base viewers recognize today.
The third anchor arrives with Season 33. CBS identifies Millennials vs. Gen X as the start of that season, while Fijivillage reported that Seasons 33 and 34 would return production to Fiji and later reporting documents the continuing Mamanuca base. Together, these sources establish the shift from a traveling-era opening location to an earlier one-season Fiji visit and then the modern permanent system. Why Survivor stopped changing countries
Probst's 2026 explanation is practical. Moving Survivor once meant scouting far ahead, selecting usable islands, shipping the equivalent of a temporary production city across an ocean and rebuilding it with housing, communications, medical support and challenge infrastructure. Potential locations have changed: some once-empty islands now have hotels, some regions present political risk, currency values affect a long international shoot and weather can force an entire schedule to move. A beautiful beach is only the visible edge of a much harder site-selection problem.
Fiji solves enough of those problems at once to preserve the show. Production knows the marine routes and seasonal conditions, has a routine for preparation and maintains working relationships with the national government, local landowners, accommodations and island operators. Probst's strongest claim was that Fiji had effectively saved Survivor. That does not mean weather is harmless (the production has evacuated in Fiji) or that cost is the only consideration. It means reliability lets the team spend more of its uncertainty budget on contestants and the game instead of whether an unfamiliar base can function.
Could Survivor ever leave Fiji?
There is no announced move. Probst said in May 2026 that the current location was not changing soon, and no official Season 51 or Season 52 material identifies a different country. Fans can reasonably miss the way a new ecology altered the show, but desire is not a production plan. A credible report of departure would need more than a theme rumor: it would require CBS or production to identify a new location, or reputable reporting tied to permits, government agreements and an actual filming schedule.
Probst named the condition underneath the arrangement: if the relationships with government, landowners, accommodations or usable islands changed, the team would have to look elsewhere. That is the honest answer to whether Survivor will ever move again. Fiji remains the confirmed home because a rare network of land, weather windows, infrastructure and trust works today. A future disruption could reopen the map, but there is no sourced basis to name the next country in advance.
